Six reasons Trump is still better than Clinton

I spent Friday's radio show explaining to incredulous guests that of course I'd support Donald Trump if he is the GOP nominee. "But after he just insulted you and your radio show in front of 15 million people?" came the question. When I reminded Trump at Thursday's debate that it was the first anniversary of his promise — made on my radio show — to release his tax returns, Donald told the world "very few people listen to your show, it is a very low rated show," which is neither true nor responsive. It was indeed entertaining, momentarily effective, and made for my third "Trump tattoo" in 12 months. He had delivered another on MSNBC, and the third in his book. I'm either jaded or used to it. Doesn't matter. "This is the business we have chosen" said Hyman Roth in "The Godfather Part II." Trump can insult me three times or thirty times in front of 30 million people. (I'll be back on stage for t...

How One Artist Used Photoshop to Send Her Kids Back in Time to Meet Their Great Great Great Grandmother

When any talented individual with a dedicated set of skills finds themselves with a little free time it almost always results in something both creative and amazing. Some of the most interesting creations have come from artists and craftsman in their spare time. So it comes as no surprise that a successful photographic digital artist like  Karen Alsop  when presented with a newly found photo of her ancestors, would turn it into something that would surprise and amaze her friends and family.            It all started when Alsop first saw the photograph. "My mother found an old photograph, dating back to the early 1900s, of my Great Great Great Grandmother and my Great Great Grandmother." She went on to say how it made her think about what it would be like to have met them or for them to sit together with her children and tell their stories. Just like that, inspiration struck. Alsop didn't just Photoshop a...

The sexy shoot is likely to amp up the excitement for the upcoming series - which kicks off on June 5 - hosted by   Caroline Flack . This year, a brand new batch of people will be jetting off to the Majorcan sun to look for love. The official  Love Island  line-up was finally revealed earlier this week after a long period of speculation about who could be entering - or even returning to - the villa.  Now, the women have proved they are willing to spend the seven weeks in their bikinis slacking up the sun and showing off their gorgeous bodies. Love Island: Camilla Thurlow has been linked to Prince Harry  [ITV] Love Island: Chloe is also set to appear on the show  [ITV] But will the new female contestants be sticking together or will they not have an issue stepping on each other as they search for Mr Right and couple up? Last year, there was drama by the sea as "girl code" was broken and several of the clan hooked up with boys their...

10 amazing uses for biomimicry in business

2016 has been a long year, with exultant highs and despondent lows for sustainability-minded professionals. I write this in the dark hours of the longest night of the year, knowing each day grows brighter from here. It’s a time for new beginnings. And although the snow presses dense and cold upon us, we know masses of tiny seeds are ready to awaken. As an evolutionary biologist and futurist, I take the long view. Species come and species go, ecosystems change and disturbance brings opportunity. Wildfires trigger new growth and reveal fertile soil. Falling trees open the canopy for new light to stream down to the forest floor. Life is resilient, and nature’s ancient R&D labs have sculpted millions of successful strategies for surviving against any odds. You’ve probably  heard of biomimicry  — the art and science of observing the living world, distilling strategies that stand the test of time and applying these deep principles to our human challenges. Bumps on the...

Dubai: A 12 year old Iranian boy, who memorised the Holy Quran in 11 months, has raised the bar of competition with his impeccable rendition leaving the audience mesmerised on Sunday night at the Dubai International Holy Quran Award (Dihqa). Reciting from five different passages of the Quran, which are randomly chosen by a computer software for each candidate, Ali Feizi had the listeners swooning to his booming voice. The grade 6 student, who completed memorising the whole of Quran at the age of seven, is the winner of the Iranian national Quran recitation contest and is participating in an international competition for the first time. By the look of it, he hasn’t done his chances of winning any harm and he knows it. “By the grace of Allah, I think I have done well to be among the top five. I surprised myself with my performance tonight (Sunday night) and now we will have to just wait and watch because there many other real good candidates competing here,” said Feizi. ...

Teens who lie are more likely to have a drinking problem

Teens who lie to their parents are more likely to develop a drinking problem than those who are honest, a new study found US and Russian researchers who questioned more than 4,000 seventh- and eighth-graders and their parents found that the teens who admitted lying were more likely to have a drinking habit. The fibbers also were at higher risk of future alcoholism than their honest counterparts, the researchers at New York University and the National Research University Higher School of Economics in Russia found. The study also found that excessive parental supervision may make the problem worse not better. “In a situation where trust is absent from the relationship between parents and their teenage children, the latter might consider both lying and drinking as acceptable practices for developing autonomy skills,” according to Victor Kaploun, associate professor of sociology at the Russian school and co-author of the report. “This is why such behaviors are interconnec...

Outrage after rapist jailed with victim

Canadian off icials have expressed outrage over the case of a homeless woman who was jailed after being raped and kept in prison with her attacker. The indigenous woman, who is not being named, was brutally attacked in an Edmonton apartment in 2014. She went to police but was jailed for not answering questions, and forced to testify while wearing leg shackles. Alberta Justice Minister Kathleen Ganley has apologised to the woman's family and ordered an investigation. "The facts of this case are disturbing and tragic, and when you add in the treatment of the victim in the system, they are almost incomprehensible," said Mrs Ganley, adding that "both policies and people failed in this case". The woman was kept in a holding cell next to her attacker for five days, and was transported to court in the same van as him, CBC News were the first to report. "I'm the victim and look at me, I'm in shackles," she told Alberta court Judge Raymon...
